Internet for Development

Introduction and promotion of the latest Internet technologies in the member countries for exchange of information and development, is one of the important programmes of COMSATS. The first project in this area was launched in Pakistan during 1995. The purpose was to make this facility a regional hub, to generate technical resources in this critically important field of the modern age and to ultimately share the expertise and related technology for the benefit of member states.

COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) in Pakistan is currently providing services in seven cities, having more than 30,000 subscribers. Its services range from dialup access to high-speed dedicated lines, consultancy, web hosting, and network training. It serves both the individual users and corporate clients, 24 hours non-stop. CIS also conducts CISCO network-training programme, as the designated training partner of CISCO International in Pakistan. To facilitate access for research and educational institutions, CIS offers 50% discount on all its services. www.comsats.net.pk.

COMSATS Internet Services is acting as the backbone of several important development projects in Pakistan. These include the distance-learning programme, online S & T Database Exchange, UNIDO project of Industrial Information Networks, and some critical projects of the Ministry of S & T, Government of Pakistan under its programme of IT promotion & development.
