COMSATS co-organizes a Workshop on “Predictive Maintenance” in Sudan

The Regional Training Workshop on ‘Application of Predictive Maintenance Methods to General Industry’ is being currently held at Khartoum, Sudan from 3rd-7th November, 2007. The workshop which has been sponsored by UNESCO as part of the South-South Technical Program has been jointly organized by Industrial Research and Consultancy Centre (IRCC) of Ministry of Science and technology Government of Sudan and COMSATS. The workshop is the first of the three events to be held under the South-South Cooperation program

The Minister of Science and Technology of Sudan, His Excellency General Abdur Rahman Saeed Abdur Rahman, graciously inaugurated the workshop on the 3rd of November. The Minister while giving his inaugural speech appreciated the role of COMSATS & IRCC in organizing such an important event, which was one of the highly demanded areas for training in Sudan. He showed his satisfaction that through such events the industry will be equipped with better tools to deal with its operational affairs and will result in reducing the costs and bringing high efficiency and quality to products and services.

A message from Dr. Hameed Ahmed Khan, the Executive Director of COMSATS was also read out at the occasion by Mr. Irfan Hayee, the visiting delegate of COMSATS. The workshop is aimed at creating awareness about predictive maintenance and towards building the skill set of scientists and technicians working in various industries of Sudan in particular, and COMSATS’ member countries in general. Dr. Hameed Ahmed Khan called for stronger ties with brotherly countries like Sudan and pledged COMSATS’ support to capacity building in major areas such as predictive maintenance. The cooperation of COMSATS was also lauded by Dr. Ahmed Obeid Hassan in his speech, while highlighting the importance of such workshops.

The resource persons for the workshop are Mr. Mohd. Adil from PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Karachi and Mr. Nouman A Khan from TEVTA, Lahore, Pakistan. More than 35 participants having strong academic background in mechanical or electric engineering are attending the workshop including two participants from Royal Scientific Society (RSS), Jordan. Various themes of the workshop include general conception of predictive maintenance and various techniques used for it, such as, vibration analysis, infrared thermography, laser alignment and oil analysis. The industries and companies being represented at the workshop include: Sudan Sugar Company, Water and Electric Energy Board, MISWACO, Sudan Currency Printing Press, Khartoum State Water Corporation, Sudan University of Science and Technology, Industrial Research and Consultancy Center, Araak Food Industry Company, and Al Hudhud Weaving Factory.

It is expected that the concluding ceremony will be presided by the state minister for industries of Sudan
