Nano-Technology is Set to Revolutionize Every Field of Life

Nano-technology is set to revolutionize every field of our life as it promises extensive future applications in medicine, chemistry, biology, information technology, biotechnology and materials. This was stated by Dr. Javed Arshad Mirza, Chairman, Dr. A. Q Khan Research Laboratories while addressing the concluding ceremony of the Conference on Nano-Science and Technology in Pakistan, organized by the National Commission on Nano-Science and Technology (NCNST) in collaboration with COMSATS and sponsorship HEC, PAEC, PCSIR and PIEAS.

Dr. Mirza informed the audience that the world is increasingly getting interested in the amazing potential for application that nano-technology holds. He further added that according to the statistics available, about $3 billion was spent in the year 2002 by the governments of the world, and 5-6 billion dollars was spent by the corporate sector on R&D in the field of Nano-Science and Technology, the figure is still increasing rapidly. Dr. Mirza apprised the participants that KRL is already focusing on this vital issue and various groups of KRL scientists are concentrating on different aspects of Nano-Science and Technology to further the progress in the field. He pledged his full support to NCNST for any practicable proposal and also joint venture in the field of Nano Science with other organizations.

Dr. M Afzal Sheikh, Member NCNST, presented a summary of the technical sessions of the two-day conference. In the end Dr. N M Butt, Chairman NCNST, thanked the Chief Guest, the sponsors, including COMSATS, HEC, PCSIR, PAEC, PIEAS and the participants of the meeting for making the conference a big success.
