Dr. Hameed Ahmed Khan Resumes
Charge as Executive Director, COMSATS
Dr. Hameed Ahmed Khan, H.I.,S.I. has resumed charge
of the office of Executive Director COMSATS as of September 5th,
2003. Dr. Khan served COMSATS from the year 2000-2003 in the same
capacity and has been re-appointed for a further tenure of three
years by the Prime Minister of Pakistan who also is the Chairperson
of the Commission.
Dr. Khan is an accomplished scientist with over 35
years of experience at varied managerial and administrative positions.
He has mainly been affiliated with the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission
(PAEC) that has seen him grow. Prior to his first tenure at COMSATS
Dr. Khan was serving as Director General, PINSTECH. Having earned
his Ph.D. in Radiation Physics from Birmingham University, U.K.
he moved one step ahead in his quest for academic excellence and
attained a D.Sc. in Physics and Space Research from the same university.
In recognition of his services as a scientist, Dr.
Khan was decorated with the prestigious civil awards of Pakistan,
the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (1999) and Sitara-e-Imtiaz (1984). He is also
a recipient of the TWNSO Prize in Technology (1998), The King Chivalry
Award (1996), Khwarzmi Prize (1993), Scientist of the Year Award
and Best Performance Gold Medal at PINSTECH. His most renowned research
work includes the development of New Type of Radiation Detectors
(Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors) and Determination of Basic
Track Parameters of a Variety of Detectors. Moreover, he was also
involved in the development of Plastic Track Detectors and their
Sensitization with a view to Enhance their Registration Efficiencies.
During his tenure at COMSATS as Executive Director,
the Commission has observed strengthening of working relations with
external partners and international players like UNIDO, IAEA, CERN
and IDRC. His strong networking and leadership persona have made
possible the initiation and realization of some of the much needed
projects in collaboration with these organizations. These include
the Industrial Information Network (IIN) Project, the Data-Grid
Application and Physics Analysis Project and the Tele-Health and
Distance Learning Project. Internally, COMSATS as a whole has renewed
its commitment with its network members under his guidance and leadership
and breakthroughs have been made to give the network both breadth
and depth. |
