Tele-Health Clinic Inaugurated, January 28, 2002, Islamabad - Pakistan
Tele-Health Project
of COMSATS was formally inaugurated on January 28, 2002 in a plaque-unveiling
ceremony, held at COMSATS Headquarters, Islamabad. The guest of honor
on the occasion, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Prof. Dr.
Atta-ur-Rehman presided over the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion,
the Federal Minister said that it is a pleasure to see such developments
taking place in Pakistan and committed to connect 100 cities with Tele-Health
technology. He further added that the cost-effective measures and enabling
atmosphere are the key factors for furthering the development in the field.
The gathering was also addressed by Dr. Hameed Ahmad Khan, Executive Director
COMSATS, His Excellency the Ambassador of Jordon, and H.E. the Councellor
of Philippine Embassy.
Dr. Amer Masud the
Chief Consultant for the Distance Learning and Tele-Health (DLT) project
made a comprehensive presentation on the project and demonstrated live
the tele-consultation techniques. The diplomatic core in Islamabad, foreign
and scientist communities and in particular the medical specialists of
Pakistan were among the largely attended event. The participants appreciated
COMSATS endeavors in the fields of science and technology and were overwhelmed
by this relatively new concept for the provision of health care to far-flung
rural areas
