COMSATS
Signs MoU with PIEAS
COMSATS has entered
into a MOU with Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences
(PIEAS) to ensure scientific and technological cooperation. The agreement
was signed on January 25, 2001 by Dr. Hameed Ahmed Khan, Executive
Director, COMSATS and Dr. Abdullah Sad iq, Rector, PIEAS on behalf of their
respective organizations.
Under the main objectives
of the agreement COMSATS would provide experts in scientific and technological
fields from the member states and would also arrange training of PIEAS
scientists and technicians including provision of faculty member in specialized
fields in accordance with mutually agreed schedule. The agreement provides
for consultancy of PIEAS faculty for teaching, research and setting up
infrastructure of the institutions in COMSATS member states. The two organizations
have agreed to collaborate with each other in arranging short courses
on mutually agreed plan as well as to ensure technology transfer between
PIEAS and COMSATS member states for research and development. Further,
PIEAS and COMSATS would put in efforts in introducing and implementing
ISO 9001: 2000 in COMSATS member countries and they would augment promoting
Science and Technology for sustainable development.
The agreement with
PIEAS was in the line with the main objectives of sett ing up of COMSATS
to facilitate exchange of experts among the member states as well as to
ensure technology transfer. COMSATS also entered into this kind of agreement
with UNIDO, COMSTECH and Government of Syria. Scientists of COMSATS member
countries are offered fellowship to work with Centres of Excellence of
COMSATS for short tenured academic/research activity in various fields
of Science and Technology.
COMSATS has started
the scholarship programmes to financially support the highereducation for scientists and promising youth of member states. All these efforts
have been directed towards advancement of efforts to boost socio-economic
as well as human resource development in COMSATS member countries. |
